I think each of us thinks that we have had an unusual life but after travelling a lot in the last 20 years I have met so many people who have a more interesting story to tell. I wonder why there aren't more interesting autobiographies available than there is.

[...] Behind every person is an inner story. A story that describes her world-view and thus her behaviour. The story may not be consciously written but silently adopted – and adapted – from local contemporary culture, childhood, genes and so on. All the books you read and stories you heard contributed to your story. [...]

Hi Evan,

Hey that is a great question! Yes during mediation the observer can develop a story about what is going on. It can lose being in the moment too, and get caught up in thinking too much about what is going on.

And I am not saying that these stories are a bad thing either, they are just an idea on how the mind works, a perspective to take.

Hi Evan,

Your comment reminded me of the times I have been meditating and discovered voices in my head narrating my efforts to discover and silence voices in my head. So there are layers of Mind if that’s what you meant, definitely lots of layers.

Do you think the observer also has a story?

If the observer gets better at picking up on our thoughts and labelling them a story then it too has a story.
