@Ian - no worries and thank you as ever for your eloquent comments
@Nicola- yes I had a similar experience on a plane over the Himalayas that I was pretty sure was going down. I totally transcended fear of death because there was no point being afraid of what I had no control over.
@Chris - actually I AM just pretending ;-) (to look tough not spiritual)
@Robin - oh do you mean like LOA stuff? Maybe - I am kinda wishy-washy on that stuff, a fence-sitter. I believe it to an extent but then I also think it's a beat-up.

Hi Seamus - I think this is a terrific article on using life's events to turn things around.

On the death thing - if you believe you are definitely going to die, it would hardly be surprising if you do, would it?

Thanks for this story man -- I know it takes some inner work to get to that place where you can really see something like that as a lesson, instead of pretending it is just to look tough or spiritual, and I'm glad to hear you've done that work.

Would be nice if we could keep these things in mind without having to have such scary reminders though wouldn't it.

Last year was very ill and frightened to sleep in case I stopped breathing. One night I just said ok, if tonight's going to be the night, so be it and slept peacefully and recovered quickly.

Thanks for a great article and the reminder to live every day to the max.

:)

There are times when it is exceedingly difficult to find the gift in such situations. I believe that's where the power of meditation comes in. If you take the time to meditate, the gifts of life seem to manifest themselves more readily. It takes a lot less retrospective analysis if you just, as you said, "be here now".

Thank you for the reminder. I have been lacking in that behavior for some time now. I need to get back to the present.

Hi Hilary,

I don't think death could ever be the worst possible outcome, it is probably like returning home or just a big sleep. It is in our instincts though to try to avoid it so I think that's pretty natural. I reckon even the Dalai Lama (spelling?) would shit himself if his plane went down or whatever! No shame in that...

Yes! Yes to everything. Isn't it funny how we think of death as the worst possible outcome while a lot of us believe we are spiritual beings who don't stop there, and who probably have much fabulousness to expect on the other side.
