This has to be one of my favourite quotes!

Use it when ‘trying’ in yoga practice – you can only do what you can do!

As a teacher, I make a point of NOT saying “Try …” in any context.

Hi Seamus, thanks for such a timely message. I just quit smoking (after many many years) and now I seem to crave sweet things, and I really can’t afford to gain more weight. One thing at a time is hard when they are all connected. It made me laugh that you brought up that reading about, thinking about, and talking about are not doing! Oh, that is so me. You are a kindred spirit. But sometimes, reading does help with motivation. You do. And you reminded me of another author, David K. Reynolds, who has written some pretty good books about “just doing”. Check him out.

Thanks Jennifer, Evelyn and Nathalie. It’s funny how something so obvious can sometimes resonate more powerfully with you all of a sudden. I was just walking to the shop to get some (not very slimming) snacks, having the usual debate with myself about whether I was trying hard enough to reduce my belly when Yoda just popped into my head you know? “Try? Try? Try not, you must do, or fail you will hmmmmm…”

I loved the Yoda quote & video. Every time I hear myself say “I’ll try”, I know it’s because my heart isn’t in it. I try to catch myself before I say it, and just focus on what it is I really want. Then I just do it, or don’t do it at all.
