I think it's great to have goals in terms of meditation. I also think meditating is just so useful when you need to take a step back from your daily stressful interactions with the world.

Plus, I get so many epiphanies when I stop and do nothing. :)

The reason to meditate is to get to a point where it is no longer necessary. We can be in a state of passive watchfulness all the time, not just during meditation, and then life opens up in unimaginable and joyous ways!

While this may not exactly sound like peace and happiness, meditation is used by many MMA (UFC) fighters. In fact, the new Light Heavyweight champ spends hours a day in meditation, trying to achieve mental clarity on his pursuit of his dream, which he just achieved.

The number one benefit I believe of meditation is achieving the focus you need to accomplish your dreams. It is a long term focus, so meditation helps with the consistency from day to day.

Great article.
